There are things you don’t even think about when you’re longing for that first publisher to take an interest in your writing. One of those is foreign rights sales – and they come as such a lovely surprise when they happen.
More of Me has sold rights in quite a few countries now, thanks to the fab team at Usborne and my wonderful agent Sophie Hicks at Sophie Hicks Agency. And look! I just accidentally found the US cover on Amazon – it’ll be published by Abrams in hardback in June 2017 – it feels ages away but it’s already available for pre-order.
There are a few tweaks in the text for the American version. I was a bit worried about changing the book at all but, in the end, it was actually quite fun. I can’t wait to see it in real life. How do you think the UK and US covers compare?
PS. I’ve just seen the lovely cover from my German publisher, Fischer Verlage, I can’t wait to show you that one!
Kathryn Evans is the award winning author of Carnegie nominated More of Me.
The UK cover is obviously more “eye catching” – no pun intended – and the eye on the spine was a brilliant addition. It would be interesting to see the spine on the US version.
I think the UK version also gives a hint to the fractured nature of the changes.
But I do like the walking away into the unknown of the older figure on the US cover.
It just doesn’t grab you and set the the book apart from others as well.
But I assume the rep it gets outweighs any cover artwork.
Well done, international author. x
Thanks! Yes, I like the walking away figure on the US version…
Congrats on going global. I too prefer the UK cover, but like the walking away. But then as a Brit the British cover should appeal to me more 🙂
